“Right to Education” Foundation presented on the 11th of February the results of the study on the experience and expectations regarding the labour market among youngsters in Romania, conducted in partnership with “OTP Fáy András” Foundation in Hungary, within the conference “Career Programme – Going beyond Borders”.

According to the research, young Romanians aged between 14 and 19 are self-confident and think they take concrete actions towards choosing a career, but need professional consultancy. The fact that 87% of participants are aware of their strong points reflects youngsters’ self-confidence. In respect to career choosing criteria, 76% of the young people get information on their own. Despite this, one can notice the need for information regarding opportunities available on the Romanian labour market, only 44% stating they are familiarized with such occasions. Also, even though 73% of students consider they take concrete actions towards choosing their career, 75% of them think that it would be helpful to benefit from consultancy in choosing a profession in the form of group training sessions (55%), individual consultancy (53%) or presentations (44%). 81% of respondents plan to attend an university or post-secondary school after graduating from high school, while 70% of them would like to leave the country. In terms of career choice, only 20% wish to become employees, most of them seeking to launch a business or to become investors. Based on the study regarding the youngsters’ experience and expectations regarding the labour market, the “Right to Education” Foundation will implement, starting September, new training sessions on career guidance for students aged between 10 and 18.

“We strongly believe in the need to contribute to youngsters’ financial education, and this research helps us to better understand students’ perception on the labour market and develop new trainings modules in order to help them decide regarding their career.” said László Diósi, CEO OTP Bank Romania and President of the “Right to Education” Foundation.
